MONTREAL -- Sleep Country Canada has agreed to acquire Dormez-Vous Sleep Centers, a five-store chain that is one of the Montreal region's largest specialty mattress retailers.
The deal, expected to close early next year, will mark Sleep Country’s entry into Quebec, an eastward expansion for the 110-store chain.
Dormez-Vous will retain its name and its management, according to a Sleep Country Canada spokesman. Dormez-Vous’s founder and owner, Stewart Schaefer, said the deal will allow the chain to expand in Quebec.
“It’s exciting for Dormez-Vous to team up with the country’s top mattress retailer to expand in Quebec and use our combined buying power to benefit our customers,” Schaefer said. “Sleep Country’s resources will help Dormez-Vous open new stores, create new jobs and deliver more value to Quebecers.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, nor was the sales volume of Dormez-Vous. Publicly owned Sleep Country Canada had sales of C$162.5 million in the first nine months of 2005, up 12.1% from the same period a year earlier.
