High Point premarket visitors can see Cal Ripken Jr., panel

High Point University to host events

Carol Trader Barton -- Furniture Today, August 5, 2009

HIGH POINT — Premarket visitors will have free access to educational seminars next month featuring retired Baltimore Orioles shortstop Cal Ripken Jr. and "Good Morning America" correspondent Marysol Castro.

The High Point Market Authority and High Point University are offering premarket guests access to the events, which will take place at HPU's new Nido R. Qubein School of Communication.

Premarket takes place Sept. 14 and 15. Both of the HPU events are set for Sept. 15.

Castro will join communications coach Burt Decker; Denise Franklin, general manager and CEO of local National Public Radio affiliate WFDD; and 26-time Emmy winner David Neal, executive producer for NBC Sports, for a communications symposium and panel discussion at 3 p.m.

Ripken will speak at the keynote presentation at 7:30 p.m. as part of HPU's Cultural Enrichment Series on leadership and overcoming adversity. He is perhaps best known for breaking New York Yankees star Lou Gehrig's record for consecutive games played.
"Offering our guests access to premier educational opportunities while they are visiting High Point is one more way we're working to make premarket an even stronger and more competitive event, and to further the brand of market overall," Brian Casey, president and CEO of the Market Authority, said in a press release.

Retailers attending premarket interested in attending the events should e-mail jan@highpointmarket.org to reserve seats.

Tickets will be distributed during premarket's executive dinner reception on Sept. 14 at the Grandover Hotel.
