Mathis buys Bedtime
Jeff Linville -- Furniture Today, January 1, 2006
Oklahoma City — A group of investors led by retailer Mathis Bros. has bought juvenile furniture importer Bedtime Inc.
Retailer and wholesaler Mathis Bros., owned by Bill and Larry Mathis, long has been a high-volume Bedtime dealer with stores in Oklahoma and California.
"It's like the old story we've all heard: We liked the product so much, we bought the company," said Bill Mathis. Referring to the importer's mixed-container program, he said, "The mixability, value and design make Bedtime a cinch for any retailer."
Mathis Bros. has extensive wholesale experience as the owner of the international bedding licensing group Lady Americana. The family operates a factory in Oklahoma City, serving its own bedding needs and 80-plus other regional dealers, said Rit Mathis, sourcing manager for Mathis Bros.
Key Bedtime managers will remain. Bob Woodyard, who had been president, will continue to focus on product development and plant relations, a role he has handled for the eight years of the company.
"We will continue to be the front-runner in design of juvenile furniture," said Ron Holiday, Bedtime sales manager. "In borrowing from the operational expertise of our new owners, we will strengthen our position."
Bedtime will show at the Las Vegas Market, Jan. 30–Feb. 3, and will continue to sell to other retailers, said Rit Mathis.
The Bedtime purchase includes casual dining division Dineco, which management is considering whether to continue.
