Blind climber set to speak at all-industry March event
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 8, 2006
High Point — Erik Weihenmayer, the first blind man to reach the summit of the world's tallest mountain, has been added to the program of the 2006 All-Industry Conference in Orlando, Fla.
The event, sponsored by the National Home Furnishings Assn. and the American Home Furnishings Alliance, with the Florida Home Furnishings Representatives Assn. as co-sponsor, will take place March 11–13 at the Hilton at Walt Disney World Resort.
Weihenmayer will speak at the convention's concluding general session at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 13. American Express will sponsor his motivational presentation, called "Touch the Top."
The athlete, who excels at paragliding and skiing as well as mountain climbing, will recall his struggle to push past the limits placed on him by his blindness. He reached the top of Mount Everest on May 25, 2001. Sixteen months later, he fulfilled an ambition to climb the highest mountain on each of the seven continents.
A brochure with the full convention program is available from the NHFA's education department at (800) 888-9590, ext. 6169.
