Ireland bedding makes Canadian debut
Michael J. Knell -- Furniture Today, January 8, 2006
Toronto — Canadian retailers will get their first look at Therapedic's Kathy Ireland Home bedding line this weekend in the showroom of Ontario licensee Sleepking/Crown Design here.
This is the first launch of the Therapedic/Ireland line outside the United States. A soft launch was held at the October High Point market and a hard launch is set for Las Vegas in late January.
"We've chosen to initially focus on the midrange of the Kathy Ireland line with the Gallery collection, where our retailers have more potential with consumer-preferred price points," said Jerry Vasser, vice president of Sleepking.
"Consumers trust the Kathy Ireland brand," said Ralph Gerstl, president of Sleepking/Crown Design. "And with other Kathy Ireland brand partners already established in the Canadian market, consumers will naturally be drawn to the ... Therapedic line."
The line is comprised of the entry-level Essentials collection, the enhanced Gallery collection, and the latex First Lady collection. Retails range from C$999 to C$1,399 in queen.
The Gallery collection offers five models, including pillowtops, and features Therapedic's proprietary seven-zone comfort foam layer and alternating-coil innerspring construction.
With three licensee factories in Canada, Ireland's bedding will be available nationwide. Therapedic Western Canada (Natural Rest Bedding of Winnipeg and Edmonton) and Therapedic Eastern Canada (Literie Giddings of Granby, Quebec) will launch the line later this year.
"Our board of directors has charged me with bringing the Kathy Ireland Home by Therapedic line to each of our representative countries throughout Therapedic," said Michael Pino, director of Therapedic International. "The {line) will be presented across North America with uniform specifications by each factory."
