Levin debuts Akron store
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 8, 2006
Akron, Ohio — Levin Furniture has opened a 70,000- square-foot showroom in the Montrose area of Akron, combining international themes and designs with local flavors of the historic city.
A Parisian bistro sets the tone for the dining department and a Tuscan country estate is the backdrop for the bedroom collection, while a 60-foot mural of Bora Bora surrounds the casual lifestyle area. The leather department looks like an Egyptian crypt, and Levin's Sleep Shop uses waterfalls in a feng shui theme.
But shoppers are gently reeled back home as they enter the reclining furniture department, with Akron's own Canal Park as the serene setting. The store is decorated with murals and portrayals of many prominent Akron landmarks and aerial photographs of local neighborhoods.
Among the prominently featured furniture collections are American Drew's Bob Mackie, Universal's Sierra Oak and four from Broyhill: Attic Heirlooms, Urban Views, Corbella and the newest introduction, the 100th Anniversary Collection.
Sally's Café offers beverages and cookies, and in the Kids Zone children can play in a 12-foot tube.
During the grand opening sale, Levin, based in Smithton, Pa., partnered with the Akron Children's Hospital, contributing $20 to the hospital for every purchase made at the store.
