Henredon's Barry opens in Mexico
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 8, 2006
Mexico City — Hundreds of guests including designers and retailers attended the Mexico debut of the Barbara Barry Realized by Henredon furniture collection last month at the CAD design center here.
Barry's licensed line with Henredon is carried in Mexico City at the Designet showroom at the CAD.
"This is a very exciting night for us," said Barry, who attended the event. "We're thrilled to bring this new collection to the Mexican market for fine furnishings."
Barry hit the ground running in the 16,000-square-foot Designet showroom, making last-minute adjustments and tweaking accessorization of her collection. The event attracted lots of local press attention, with Barry and Fernando Garza, general manager of Designet, spending much of the evening in interviews.
The collection itself got off to a fast start.
"We've already had our first sale on the dining table," Ken MacArtney, who represents Henredon in Latin America, said before the event was even under way, referring to the collection's huge oval walnut table. "In the Mexican market, the high end is crying out for big dinner tables. They want to seat 14 at a time if they can."
Sandra Standefer, director of Barbara Barry brand merchandising for Henredon, noted that wealthy consumers here don't mind paying extra to get product altered to their specifications.
