London Fabric show set for Feb.
By Susan M. Andrews -- Furniture Today, January 8, 2006
London — London Fabric, an international trade fair for home furnishings fabric and leather, is set for Feb. 21–23 at Earl's Court here.
Since the inaugural London Fabric event in 2001, the show has grown in importance every year. This year, it promises to host about 60 exhibitors from countries including the United States, Italy, Germany, Ireland, Turkey, the Netherlands, Denmark and Belgium, although a roster was not yet available.
Exhibitors will include weavers, printers and tanners targeting mid- to high-volume buyers such as upholstered furniture manufacturers, jobbers and large fabric retailers.
Because the United Kingdom is one of Belgium's top export markets for home furnishings textiles, Belgium is the most represented country at the show, according to organizers. A pavilion will be coordinated by Febeltex, the Belgian textile trade association, and Export Flanders, the Flemish government export support organization.
Participation from Turkey is also increasing, with a number of Turkish mills gaining a foothold in the United Kingdom.
As low-cost competition from China and other Far Eastern countries continues to increase, demand is growing for high quality, better design and product differentiation, London Fabric's organizers say. For that reason, the 2006 show will feature the debut of The Pavilion, an exclusive high-end area targeted to buyers from upscale upholstery manufacturers.
