Sommer joins Classic

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 8, 2006

Tim Sommer, formerly the bedding department coordinator at HOM Furniture in Coon Rapids, Minn., has joined Classic Sleep Products as vice president of strategy and channel development.

Sommer will be responsible for boosting sales of the Dormia line of visco and latex mattresses.

"We are very excited about the skills and experience that Tim brings to the company," said Mike Zippelli, CEO of Classic, based here. "We are confident that Tim's addition will help Classic Sleep Products and Dormia achieve new levels of success and growth."

Sommer will join Classic this month and will be at the company's Las Vegas showing, in Pavilion 1, Space 2915. The market runs Jan. 30–Feb. 3.

During his 15 years with HOM, he worked as a manager, trainer, operations manager and most recently as the bedding department coordinator. He helped HOM become a leader in the competitive Twin Cities market in Minnesota.

Sommer, a strong advocate for specialty sleep, received a Retailer of the Year award from the Specialty Sleep Assn. last year.

Classic also announced the addition of David Bauman as regional manager for the upper Midwest. A 20-year veteran of the bedding and furniture industries, he was most recently U.S. sales manager for Natura World. Before that, he was a regional sales manager for Tempur-Pedic and a senior buyer and merchandiser with Furniture.com.
