NHFA plans sessions on Web initiative

High Point — The National Home Furnishings Assn. plans to hold three informational sessions for retailers on its new consumer Web portal and certified retailer program during next month's Las Vegas Market.
The sessions will review the entire program for HomeFurnishings.com, including a national marketing campaign, which encompasses advertising and promotions; the consumer Web site, which allows customers to search for product and find out where they can buy it; and a retailer certification program. The HomeFurnishings.com site is scheduled for a soft launch in October with a national sweepstakes to follow to bring traffic to the site. The national launch is set for January.
The Vegas seminars are scheduled for 1–2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, and 9–10 a.m. and 1–2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15. Attendees will receive tips on how to drive more traffic to their stores. A question-and-answer session will follow.
"Our research shows that consumers begin their shopping process online, deciding what they want and where to get it before they leave home," said Doug Kays, chairman of the NHFA. "Our goal is to influence consumers to view home furnishings as a necessary part of their lives and to spur business for the whole industry."
