Businessman buys Hamilton Square
Larry Thomas -- Furniture Today, January 15, 2006
High Point — Hamilton Square, a two-story showroom complex at 101 S. Hamilton St., has been sold to a company headed by a High Point businessman who owns five other showroom buildings in the downtown area.
The new owner, McDonald Capital Properties Alpha, is getting a 113,000 square-foot building that is fully leased to about 20 tenants.
Hamilton Square, which opened in April 1986, had been owned by a partnership headed by David Zagaroli. Eddie Forward, general manager of the building since the fall of 1986, said he and his staff will remain in place under the new ownership.
"David Zagaroli created the vision of Hamilton Square," Forward said. "From the beginning, his goal was to create a user-friendly building while maintaining close relationships with exhibitors and understanding their needs."
He said the new owner, a company headed by C. Wayne McDonald, has a similar business philosophy.
"Hamilton Square fits nicely with what we do," McDonald said. "High Point is not only an exceptional location for a company's showroom, but also for offices and warehouses to service the East Coast."
McDonald also owns the Centennial Station, Centennial Center and Independence Hall showroom buildings, as well as Old Davis Mill, a building that will debut at the April market.
