Art Van names design director, new store managers

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 15, 2006

Retailer Art Van Furniture has filled a new position to create and manage a staff of designers, and has promoted several employees to store managers.

Bill Robinson, newly hired as director of design/business development, joins the company after 25 years at La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries in Canton, Mich., most recently as general manager. In the new post at Art Van, he will be responsible for the introduction, implementation and supervision of an in-home design program in which staff designers visit clients' homes.

Doug Christensen, who takes over the Muskegon, Mich., store, began his career with the company in 1983 as a sales associate in Livonia, Mich. After two years, he was promoted to management and has worked in stores in Warren, Kentwood, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Muskegon, and Comstock Park, Mich.

Chad Langenburg, who takes over as manager of the Comstock Park store, joined Art Van in 1992 in customer pick-up at Kalamazoo. He worked in sales and management positions in Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and Grand Rapids stores and was named manager in Holland, Mich., in 2001.

Ken Hector, new manager of the Schoenherr Art Van store in Warren, came to the company in 1989 as a sales associate. He has been in management for the past 10 years, most recently as sales manager.

Art Van Furniture is a Top 100 chain of 29 stores in Michigan operated by the Van Elslander family.
