Ashley contributes to library

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 15, 2006

Ashley Furniture has donated $750,000 to its hometown to help construct a new library.

Arcadia's Carnegie Library is housed in a 100-year-old building, which is on the National Register of Historic places. The city has not chosen a site for the new facility, although construction is expected to begin in the summer.

The library, with 14,184 books, serves the city's population of 2,300.

Ashley CEO Ron Wanek's wife, Joyce, has been on the library board for several years. It was her desire for a new library that led to Wanek's decision to make the donation.

And depending on construction costs, another donation may be forthcoming, for the building's upkeep and maintenance.
