SFM renovates sixth floor to spotlight gifts

San Francisco — The San Francisco Mart has renovated its sixth floor and renamed it Gifts on Six, to be home to an array of product categories including gift, home accents, garden décor, textiles, tabletop and juvenile.
"With Gifts on Six, we have designed a gift center within our home furnishings center, which remains our core strength," said Roseann Carini, the SFM's general manager. "But the dedicated floor and our continued cooperation with the gift show give our buyers an efficient way to shop for these impulse purchase items that will help them boost their margins and build store traffic."
In two surveys conducted in 2004 by the Mart, buyers and design professionals indicated a desire for more decorative accessories, wall décor and gifts. Last August, the SFM moved its market dates to coincide with the San Francisco International Gift Fair's PreFair at the GiftCenter & JewelryMart.
The San Francisco Mart will focus on offering lines and showrooms not currently available on the West Coast in a permanent venue.
"Our goal is to provide exceptional customer service," said Jaime Montiel, the Mart's leasing director, who is spearheading the expansion. "The services we will be offering will meet the needs of the manufacturer, sales representative or importer, as well as satisfying retail buyers and design professionals."
Carini said the addition of gifts will make the Mart a total wholesale home furnishings center.
"We are a new business — a destination in a significant metropolitan area that cannot be overlooked," said Carini. "With a population of 6.7 million, the Bay Area is the fifth largest metropolitan area in the country. Combined with an average household income of almost $84,000, we have an excellent opportunity to expand our business by becoming a destination for designers and independent retailers."
