McKee joins Robb & Stucky
By Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, January 22, 2006
Fort Myers, Fla. — Industry veteran Steve McKee has joined Robb & Stucky Interiors here as senior vice president and chief merchandise officer, a new position for the Top 100 company.
McKee will be involved in all aspects of merchandising and product development, both domestic and international, said Fred Berk, president of the retailer, which has 17 stores in Florida, Texas and Arizona, including Outdoor Living stores and a unit devoted largely to Henredon product in Coral Gables, Fla.
With more than 30 years in the industry, McKee most recently was with Furniture Brands International's Henredon Furniture division, starting as executive vice president of sales and marketing in February 2002 and rising to president and CEO in October 2004. He left last year, shortly before Furniture Brands made management changes at Thomasville and Henredon.
Earlier, he was president of now-defunct retailer Home Co. from 1998 to 2002, and an executive with Minneapolis-based Gabberts for 11 years, leaving as president. He began his retail career at Macy's Department Stores and has also held senior management posts at Shillito's and Joske's.
"I think it's a great fit for our company and a great fit for Steve," said Berk, adding that he and Clive Lubner, Robb & Stucky's CEO, "are extremely pleased with his background both on the retail and manufacturing side."
"Robb & Stucky is poised in a terrific position in this industry and has the opportunities for continued growth and success in the future," McKee said.
Ranked No. 31 on Furniture/Today's survey of the Top 100 U.S. furniture stores, Robb & Stucky had estimated 2004 furniture, bedding and accessory sales of $262 million.
The company opened Outdoor Living showrooms in Glendale, Ariz., in September and Chandler, Ariz., in November. In February, it will open a Robb & Stucky Interiors Henredon store in Scottsdale, Ariz., the second of five planned.
