Toronto — Normand Couture, chief design officer for Sofas International, has won the Canadian Home Furnishings Awards' Grand Medallion for the third consecutive year, this time for his Ooh! La! La! contemporary sofa group.
The Ontario Furniture Manufacturers Assn.'s CHFA program celebrates excellence in the design and construction of Canadian-made residential furniture.
Entires are judged by a panel of retailers from across the country.
The 2006 competition attracted 84 entries in 14 categories. Awards were presented at a gala dinner last week during the market here.
Medallions are awarded in popular, premium and prestige price categories, reflecting the good-better-best pricing.
A fourth category, platinum, in fabric upholstery is for ultra-high end price points.
In addition to the Grand Medallion, awarded to the entry receiving the jury's highest score, the Ooh! La! La! also received the medallion for fabric upholstery (prestige).
Sofas International is part of the upholstery division of Shermag, which also won awards for its Land collection and for marketing of its Canvas collection.
Other Medallion winners included Superstyle Furniture, Palliser, Durham, Reflections, Acme Chrome, Simmons Upholstery Canada, West Bros., World Class Furniture, Via Furniture, Leather Living Furniture, Kingsdown Canada, Trend-Line, Leather Craft, Sklar Peppler, Brentwood Classics, Campio and Ferretti Interiors.
