Furniture|Today to underwrite Pinnacle design awards
Deadline for entries is Aug. 3
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 27, 2006
NEW LONDON, N.C. -- Furniture|Today will be the major underwriter this year for the American Society of Furniture Designers’ 11th annual Pinnacle Design Achievement Awards.
“Furniture|Today has been proud to have served as one of the judges for this worthwhile award for a number of years. Now, we are looking forward to becoming much more involved in our new role as the major underwriter,” said Ray Allegrezza, editor in chief.
The newspaper will provide advertising and coverage to facilitate and expand the Pinnacle call for entries, and will participate in the planning and execution of the awards banquet in October.
ASFD’s vice president and president-elect, Jack Lewis, an independent furniture designer from Grand Rapids, Mich., is the team leader for the 2006-2007 Pinnacle Committee.
“Everyone at ASFD is very excited about this new partnership with Furniture/Today, and we look forward to the continuing support of all of our long-term sponsors as well. We are confident that Furniture/Today will help us take the Pinnacle Awards to the next level in reaching a broader segment of the furniture industry,” said Lewis.
Christine Evans, ASFD’s executive director, said, “After 10 years of ever-increasing enthusiasm and momentum for the Pinnacles and their coveted sign of excellence in the industry, it seems fitting and appropriate to partner with the industry’s foremost trade publication. We are confident that Furniture/Today’s close involvement with ASFD through this important Pinnacle sponsorship will greatly benefit ASFD’s fundamental goals and visions towards increased emphasis and visibility of the many talented designers and their original work.”
The purpose of the ASFD Pinnacle Design Achievement Awards is to generate and support innovative, high-quality design, while encouraging the recognition of furniture designers. The awards honor designs that are produced in large numbers for sale to consumers through retail stores.
Plans are set to kick off the 11th annual Pinnacle Awards poster and call for entries in March. The deadline for entries will be Aug. 3, almost a month earlier than in previous years.
The Pinnacle Awards banquet will be held during the High Point fall market, but on Tuesday evening, Oct. 17, rather than on Friday because of the new market schedule. Additional information on other participating sponsors and a list of the 12 Pinnacle judges will be provided next month.
