Shuttle services to expand in April

High Point — More frequent shuttles to area hotels and a new on-demand shuttle service for short trips within High Point will be key upgrades in April to the High Point market's massive transportation system, the International Home Furnishings Market Authority said.
Market Authority President Judy Mendenhall said midday shuttle service to hotels will be available for the first time in April, supplementing the popular early morning, late afternoon and early evening routes that serve more than 100 hotels and motels.
The new on-demand shuttle service will take attendees to virtually any location that is not a regular shuttle stop, as long as it is within three miles of the city limit of High Point, she said.
Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. tested a similar service during the October market and it proved very popular, said Mendenhall.
She said the new shuttle will be combined with the outlying showroom shuttles the Market Authority has operated the past several markets. Shuttles to those showrooms no longer will have trips scheduled at specific times; marketgoers will be able to make arrangements for rides as needed at the transportation terminal on Commerce Avenue.
A shuttle to Thomasville Furniture Inds. will be the only regularly scheduled outlying showroom route, Mendenhall said.
