Futon Assn. hosting futon exhibit

Las Vegas — A futon mattress designed to stand out and another designed to disappear are among the highlights of product introductions in the futon category here.
Once again, The Futon Assn. is hosting a showing of futon lines at Pavilion 1 on the World Market Center site. Dozens of new futons and futon products are featured.
Futons also are being showcased in some permanent showrooms here, such as that of futon mattress leader Gold Bond (WMC 1042), the producer with the futon mattress that stands out.
Its Visco Touch single-sided futon is giving the futon industry a boost by substantially elevating the feel of the futon, according to Gold Bond President Bob Naboicheck.
"This is a super-premium mattress that competes at $499 (full size) with $2,000 sofas in feel and comfort," he said. "Futons continue to provide consumers with the best sofa-sleeper value on the market, and with the inclusion of the Visco Touch, the futon competes with top-of-the-line home furnishings for the first time."
The Visco Touch futon mattress is substantial, built with three inches of three-pound visco foam encased in densified fiber and five inches of 1.8-density upholstery foam. The futon has a tailored cover.
This market, Gold Bond also has added a layer of support foam to one of its most popular mattress lines, the SofTouch.
"We wanted our SofTouch to be a bit fuller, richer in its feel," Naboicheck noted. "So we took our most successful product and raised the comfort levels up another notch. This gives our Sof-Touch added bounce and feel; it's unlike any other futon in the super-premium category."
The futon mattresses designed to disappear are being offered by August Lotz (Pavilion 1, space 7413). They are a line of officially licensed Realtree or Mossy Oak camouflage-pattern mattresses.
"This unique product caters to the niche market of outdoor enthusiasts," said Fayne Peck, marketing specialist with August Lotz. "More than 43 million people hunt in the United States and 13 million hunt on a regular basis. Futon furniture is perfect for cabins and dens, so we feel this product will sell well in this niche."
The camouflage futons are being produced in conjunction with King Dimensions, a leading outdoor products manufacturer. The mattresses are available in chair and full sizes, in foam and innerspring versions.
Futon frames also are being offered in a number of new styles and designs in Las Vegas.
August Lotz, for example, is introducing the Manhattan futon, crafted from solid maple and available in black, espresso or natural finishes in contemporary designs. The Southgate model has a white finish and a cottage-style frame.
Strata's Carriage collection of futons includes five models, in wood, cherry and antique black finishes, with retails at $399. The line includes the Lexington, which features a sleigh arm accentuated by a curved front leg and brass knob detailing.
