Saloom brings Elvis to market

Las Vegas — Saloom/New England is bringing a secret weapon to the market here.
John Vaitkevicius, a furniture finisher who has worked for 12 years at the casual dining specialist, will be at the market showing off his other talent — impersonating Elvis Presley.
On weekends, Vaitkevicius is transformed into Johnny King, Elvis impersonator. He performs at parties and other events. He will be in the Saloom space, space 27113 in the World Pavilions area, to meet and greet customers on Monday and Tuesday of market, Jan. 30 and 31.
"Not only does Johnny look the part, but he sounds like the real deal, too," said Peter Saloom, company president. He added, "It's a lot of fun when we do factory tours for visitors. When we come through the finishing room and they see Johnny spraying a chair, with his jet black hair and big sideburns, you can see a curious look come across their faces."
Dave Foley, Saloom sales manager, said the company's good fortune in having an Elvis impersonator on staff was an inviting opportunity.
"Elvis is definitely linked to Las Vegas," Foley said. "I thought, 'Wouldn't it be great to have our own Elvis, Johnny King, at the Saloom space during the Las Vegas Market?' It's great when you can add a little fun to the market experience — we're guaranteed to see smiles when people meet Johnny."
"My only worry," said Saloom, "is that Johnny will get a big Elvis opportunity out there and won't come home to the finishing shop."
