Ultra, Paxar offer woven bedding labels
These woven bedding labels were developed and produced by Paxar Corp./Ultra Distributors.

Knoxville, Tenn. — Label this company brand-conscious.
Ultra Distributors here has teamed up with what it says is the largest producer of woven labels in the world, Paxar Corp., to offer a variety of labels to the mattress industry.
The line, marketed by Ultra, features traditional woven labels, woven labels with a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing, woven tubular labels, and in-plant fabric labeling systems.
Steve Clay, head of Ultra Distributors, says the line is designed to offer mattress producers "unique, beautiful and efficient ways to brand their products." Bedding makers are using the labels to help their products stand out on retail floors and to make strong quality and value statements to consumers, he said.
Clay said the first major bedding producer to switch to Ultra's woven labels was Kingsdown.
"While working with Kingsdown," he said, "Ultra developed not only a woven label with the stiffness required for their sew-on application, but also a tested and proven pressure-sensitive product to meet Kingsdown's needs."
He said the Kingsdown program sparked other producers to turn to woven labels.
Ultra is offering complete labeling systems to bedding producers, introducing to the industry what it says has been a successful concept from the textile industry. By providing a turnkey system consisting of satin label cloth, thermal transfer ink ribbons, Paxar thermal transfer printers, and accompanying software, the program allows factories to print labels in-house.
"For years, apparel manufacturers have realized the benefits of printing their own labels," Clay said. The capability gives producers greater flexibility, quicker turnaround and lower costs, he said.
The Ultra line includes several products. The woven labels, which can be finished in a variety of stiffness levels depending on the sewing requirements of the mattress factory, offer fine detail, versatility of design, and intense colors, according to the company.
Pressure-sensitive woven labels are backed with "an extremely aggressive pressure-sensitive adhesive," the company says.
Woven identification tab labels combine the beauty of a woven label with the simplicity of a sewn-on tab, the company says. Because these labels are sealed and finished on both sides, primary information can be placed on the front while secondary information can go on the back.
Preprinted, single-cut identification tab labels can be manufactured from taffeta, satin or twilled tape material. The tape can be dyed any color and then screen printed and/or hot stamped. Printed tape labels offer high quality looks with minimal expense and low minimum purchases, the company says.
Paxar, which operates 27 factories around the world, is based in White Plains, N.Y.
