AFW store launch raises $31K

Englewood, Colo. — Nearly 300 furniture industry representatives, business partners and community leaders joined Jake Jabs in late November to celebrate the grand opening of American Furniture Warehouse's 10th Colorado store here.
AFW acquired the 80,000-square-foot former Homestead House showroom in August, and transformed it into a new-concept store featuring eclectic room settings.
The celebration also served as a fund-raiser for Project C.U.R.E., a nonprofit group that delivers needed medical supplies and equipment to developing countries. The event brought in more than $31,000, which American Furniture Warehouse matched, bringing it $63,000 closer to its goal of raising $1 million and matching it.
"We had been planning to hold a fund-raiser for our friends at Project C.U.R.E. for a while, and the timing on the opening of our new showroom offered the perfect opportunity," said Jabs, president and CEO of American Furniture Warehouse. "We were thrilled to see the furniture industry stepping up to join us in this effort."
The grand opening event featured a silent auction, which included a variety of items from accessories to bedroom sets donated by more than 25 AFW resources, including Ashley, Primo and Hellenic.
During the ceremony, Craig Ganoe and Rodney Goodrum of Therapedic of the Rockies presented Project C.U.R.E. with $20,000.
"We wanted to make a sizable contribution to a worthwhile organization, and when we began looking into nonprofits with which we could get involved, we immediately turned to Jake for advice," said Ganoe.
