AT THE MARKET -- The traditional sleep set is seeing big changes in some showrooms here.
Beds on display at this bedding-rich market offer unusual storage features and innovative new designs. And some of the cool new mattresses feature Cool Max ticking.Seahawk Designs (Pavilion 2, space 6715), a bedroom furniture producer, is showing its Sto-A-Way mattress foundation. According to the company, the product offers as much storage space as a standard six-drawer chest. The foundation uses a standard metal frame and is covered with a neutral microfiber compatible with most mattress covers. King- and queen-sized models have four 22-inch deep drawers, giving consumers plenty of under-bed storage.“Our market research shows a high interest in this product from both the consumer and the retailer alike,” said Bill Jahn, an executive with the company.Hidden storage is also offered at Emerald Home Furnishings (Rio P2-150). A lift bed has a leather-like base and removable inside liner that gives consumers a handy place to store blankets, sheets and other items.
Adjustable comfort is the selling point at Natura World (World Market Center, space 950). The specialty sleep producer is rolling out its Majestic mattress made of Talalay latex, which puts the emphasis on personalized comfort. Sleepers can maximize personal comfort by customizing their own sleep surface.“This is a pretty significant product launch,” said Larry Klein, vice president of sales for Natura. “It was developed with some of our key retailers to help their staffs custom-fit product to suit each consumer preference.”The bed also features the company’s Natura Smart Wool, which adds an extra layer of comfort and helps lead to improved sleep, according to the company.Another new twist in mattresses comes from PerformAire Mattresses (Pavilion 1, space 2504), which targets the sports and fitness marketplace with its line of foam beds fashioned with channeled cores that allow air to flow throughout the mattress. The improved airflow enables the bedding to gently flex and to adjust to each individual, eliminating pressure points and providing better circulation and a better night’s sleep, the company says. The design of the company’s channeled sleeping surface was influenced by yoga mats, gym pads and athletic cushioning products. “We looked at consumer habits and trends, especially in the health, sports and fitness marketplace, and quickly discovered the importance of visual appeal to connect with the consumer,” said Ron Galardo, president of PerformAire. The PerformAire mattresses are available in latex and visco foams, and in two foam and fiber designs.
Park Place (Pavilion 1, space 5205) is featuring its Cool Therapy 4000LXVS bedding. The premium number offers 100% pure latex foam rubber, coupled with four inches of visco foam in the boxtop. The bed is topped with DuPont branded Cool Max ticking for temperature control. The result, according to Park Place officials, is “the best night’s sleep you’ve ever had.”
