Kingsdown gives $500,000 to N.C. children's hospital

David Perry -- Furniture Today, July 24, 2005

Kingsdown has presented a check for $500,000 to the Duke Children's Hospital in nearby Durham, N.C.

Much of the money was raised at the Swing for Kids event the bedding manufacturer hosted earlier this year in Pinehurst, N.C. The event featured a celebrity golf tournament, an awards dinner, and a special ceremony for the Children's Miracle Network.

Additional funds were raised at Kingsdown's four manufacturing facilities, where employees hosted a variety of events ranging from road rallies to golf tournaments.

"Raising the money was a major effort by all of our employees, dealers, and friends," said Eric Hinshaw, CEO of Kingsdown. "It's simply a wonderful cause that we believe in. And we plan to continue to support Duke Children's Hospital, as well as other CMN hospitals around the country."

Thomas R. Kinney, M.D., a professor at the teaching hospital, and Wilbert C. Davison, associate chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, accepted the donation on behalf of the hospital.
