Hitchcock closing four stores

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 20, 2006

Hitchcock Fine Home Furnishings plans to close its four Connecticut stores as its parent company, manufacturer Hitchcock Chair, continues its search for a buyer for the factory and wholesale business.

Locations slated to close are Glastonbury, Wilton, Orange and Riverton, Conn. The Riverton flagship store building may be included in the restructuring deal. All four stores are holding going-out-of-business sales.

The company said the store closings and the planned sale and restructuring of Hitchcock Chair result from the challenges in the Connecticut retail climate and the proliferation of competition from overseas production.
