James Bartholomew Metsch, sales rep

Newbury, N.H. — James Bartholomew Metsch, a longtime sales representative and retailer in the Northeast and Canada, has died. He was 83.
Metsch served in the Army during World War II and saw combat action in Normandy, France. After his discharge, he worked in furniture sales for retailer W&J Sloane for more than 24 years.
He became the company's first store manager outside New York City, in Milford, Conn. He then worked as a Drexel Heritage sales representative in New England and part of Canada for more than 30 years until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, including Robert Metsch, a Highland House sales representative in New England; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
