MMPI razing building for buyer parking
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 26, 2006
High Point — The end is near for the former Ice House building, which will be torn down to create more free buyer parking for the spring market here.
Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. said the demolition of the vacant structure will nearly double the capacity of the parking lot at Lindsay and Kivett streets to as many as 500 vehicles. The lot will be free to buyers for the market, which officially runs April 27 to May 3.
"Merchandise Mart Properties continues to seek out opportunities to enhance buyer services at the High Point market," said Tom Mitchell, MMPI senior vice president and general manager.
MMPI operates such High Point showroom buildings as Market Square, the Suites at Market Square, Hamilton Market, Plaza Suites, Furniture Plaza and the National Furniture Mart.
