Sherman drives Serta to good finish in Daytona

Daytona, Fla. — A rookie driver put the Serta-sponsored racecar on the fast track in the Daytona 500.
The driver is Brent Sherman, son of Serta International President Bob Sherman. He made a strong debut on Nascar's biggest stage, driving the No. 49 Dodge to a 21st-place finish.
It was his first race as a Nextel Cup driver, the major leagues on the Nascar circuit. He beat some of the sport's biggest names, including Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch.
Sherman, who started in the No. 29 position, had the third-best finish of the seven rookies in the field.
Just before the start of the race, he thanked his team members and family for helping him achieve his dream of racing in the Nascar Nextel Cup Series. After the race, he said he was pleased with his showing.
"Going into today's race, our goal was to gain experience and finish the race," he said. "To finish just outside the top 20 in the Daytona 500 is exciting when you consider this was my first Nextel Cup start."
Sherman, who drives for BAM Racing, earned $274,766 at Daytona.
