Sklar Peppler offers consumer card
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 5, 2006
Whitby, Ontario — Sklar Peppler has launched a consumer credit card, a move it believes it will help its growing network of independently owned stores drive up sales.
"We believe that we're the first in the industry to do a furniture-specific credit card with CitiFinancial," said Lisa Tweedy, director of corporate marketing. "The consumer can buy anything in the store with the card."
While Sklar Peppler-branded product makes up the core upholstery assortment in the freestanding stores, retailers source other products from a variety of resources.
Tweedy said the application process for the consumer will be simple: swipe a current card and, if accepted, an account is issued. "In addition to being easy for the consumer, it speeds up the purchase of the furniture as well," she said.
Retailers are reimbursed for the purchases with 48 hours of approval.
In-store point-of-purchase materials are available to support the program, which also includes a 90-day, no-interest plan. Sklar also will devise direct-mail campaigns to attract customers.
Sklar has 12 stores in its chain, nine in Canada and three in the United States.
"We looking for at least five to open this year," said Tweedy.
