3 retailers join Nationwide

Winston-Salem, N.C. — Nationwide Marketing Group has added three large retailers to its membership roster. They are:
-
Grand Appliance & TV of Libertyville, Ill., an eight-store chain.
-
Seven-store Olinde's of Baton Rouge, La.
-
Top 100 company Schewel Furniture of Lynchburg, Va., a 52-store chain.
The three, who left buying group MARTA to join the Nationwide appliance, electronics and furniture buying and services group, together have over $150 million in annual sales.
Nationwide bills itself as the largest U.S. buying and marketing organization of its kind, with more than 2,500 retailer members with 7,000 stores and $10 billion in sales. Late last year, it forged a strategic alliance with Furniture Marketing Group in a bid to push combined annual furniture buying power to about $3 billion.
Olinde's and Schewel are members of FMG, but "I don't think it had anything to do with (them joining Nationwide)," said Robert Weisner, Nationwide's executive vice president. "We've been recruiting these guys for a number of years.
"They are respected, growing dealers, and we believe that Nationwide can help them grow even stronger," he said.
Nationwide's semiannual buying event for retailers, PrimeTime, took place last week in Las Vegas.
