JCPenney wins Tupelo buyer award
Joan Gunin -- Furniture Today, March 5, 2006
Tupelo, Miss. — The Tupelo Furniture Market honored JCPenney with its 34th semiannual National Buyer Appreciation Award at ceremonies here.
Joe Di Sarro, the Plano, Texas-based retailer's senior upholstery buyer, accepted on behalf of his team including Kim Boldway, Michael Kays, Andrea Napoli, Dori Swyhart, Ann Vilmer, Margaret Worthington and Diana Gray.
"Tupelo goes to great lengths to connect the exhibitor with their customer," Di Sarro said. "The Tupelo marketplace has become one of our most important stops and that importance is growing. Without our suppliers here, our business would not be what it is now, nor would we be able to deliver the values we offer."
JCPenney has been shopping the Tupelo market as a team since 2003, Di Sarro said.
Mississippi Lt. Gov. Amy Tuck, who presented the award, termed JCPenney "an ideal partner" for Mississippi and Tupelo. She called the Northeast Mississippi-based furniture industry "an economic development engine" employing 50,000 workers and doing $4.1 billion in manufacturing business a year.
