Sandberg Furniture
Los Angeles — Bedroom and entertainment supplier Sandberg Furniture has hired Phil Swiger in the new position of vice president of imports.
Swiger will be largely responsible for sourcing of finished goods for the Platinum Collection import division, launched in 2005. He reports to President John Sandberg and will work with Phil Sweet, vice president for the domestic Sandberg line.
Swiger entered the furniture industry in 1988 and previously worked for the Fort Worth, Texas-based retailer The Bombay Company and manufacturer Bernhardt.

Hooker Furniture
Martinsville, Va. — David Sweet, a retired executive with apparel company VF Corp., has joined Hooker Furniture's board of directors.
Sweet, who was with VF for over 25 years, retired as vice president-retail of VF's The North Face outdoor products division.
Prior to that, he was vice president-operations at North Face, involved in supply chain management, forecasting, production planning, product sourcing and distribution, was a senior manager at VF Outdoor-Europe, and was director of international development and acquisitions.
He will serve on Hooker's corporate governance and audit committees.

Art Van Furniture
Warren, Mich. — Art Van Furniture has promoted Dan Baran to director of operations for distribution, quality, service and process improvement.
Baran joined the company in 2001 as systems implementation manager in information systems. Most recently he was director of logistics.
In his new post, he oversees the warehouse and central services, including distribution, service and delivery, as well as quality and logistics.
