'Chefs' raise money for kids
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 5, 2006
West Palm Beach, Fla. — Rain didn't dampen the spirits or the generosity of about 130 people who attended the third annual Celebrity Chef fundraiser here, hosted by the Florida Home Furnishings Representatives Assn. and the Florida Home Furnishings Assn.
The event raised several thousand dollars for Give Kids the World, a central Florida charity that provides memorable vacations for families of children with life-threatening illnesses.
Executives from some of the state's top furniture retailers served food to their peers and earned "tips" for the cause. Foothills Trucking sponsored cocktails at the event, and Stanley Furniture Florida provided a chocolate fountain dessert table.
Give Kids the World welcomes ill children and their families for weeklong stays in its specially designed facility in central Florida.
In addition to lodging, the facility has an on-site ice cream parlor, a movie house, a game room, a pool designed to accommodate wheelchair-bound people, and other fun features.
Children and their families also are treated to admission to theme parks and entertainment in the Orlando area.
