Youth bedroom style trends
- • American country and Contemporary styles claimed the top spots in market share of units sold at 39% and 38% for low price points ($179 and below, for a twin bed, priced at retail).
- • American country, 31%, was the unit market share leader at middle price points ($180 to $499 for a twin bed, retail). Cotemporary and Other traditional shared second place, both at 21%.
- • At high price points ($500 and above for a twin bed, retail), Asian claimed the lead spot of unit market share at 29%, followed by American country at 23%.
- • Pine, 22%, and Oak, 21%, jockeyed for the top spot as unit market share leader for best-selling wood or finish at low price points ($179 and below, for a twin bed, priced at retail).
- • Oak scored as unit market share leader at middle price points ($180 to $499 for a twin bed, retail).
- • Cherry took the top spot of unit market share at high price points ($500 and above for a twin bed, retail).
- • Features of Youth bedroom styles that retailers thought were gaining favor with consumers included nickel or pewter hardware, TV-compatible dresser/chest and platform beds.
- • Features thought to be losing favor with consumers were poster or canopy beds, brass hardware and self-closing drawers.
