Capel Rugs introducing Jane Seymour line in Vegas
By Gary James -- Furniture Today, August 31, 2009
TROY, N.C. — Capel Rugs is launching a line of casually styled rugs at the Las Vegas Market co-branded with actress Jane Seymour.
Seymour will be in the Capel showroom in the World Market Center, space A-226, during market on Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon for a book signing. Visitors will receive a free copy of her latest book, “Open Hearts,” which she will autograph.
“We can't wait to introduce our new programs to the Las Vegas audience,” said Allen Robertson, Capel's vice president of sales.
In casual styling, Capel's offerings in the Seymour program include designs for the Karma Naturals and Seabreeze collections. The rugs are designed for outdoor or indoor use.
Capel previewed the new collection to retailers at the July market in Atlanta. But Las Vegas represents the official launch.
During the Vegas market, Capel also will promote its expanded customer's own material program, which allows customers to marry an array of border options with a standard rug base.
In addition, Capel is offering a special discount of 50% on nearly 100 SKUs of in-line styles sold during market, including rugs from popular collections such as Andes, Kaimuri and Martha's Pastels. The company also will offer discounts on all introductions and special invoice terms on purchases of $2,500 or more.
Throughout market, showroom visitors also can register to win of one of Capel's bestselling rugs, to be given away daily.
Capel joins a list of 10 home furnishings licensees in the Jane Seymour program. They include Picture Source (wall art), Shady Lady (lighting), Napa Home & Garden (outdoor accessories), Firefly Home (gifts), Badash (crystal), Bella Rose (top-of-bed) and South Bay (bedding).
South Bay and Badash also will have new Jane Seymour products at the Vegas market.
At the next Las Vegas Market in February, Jane Seymour Designs plans to launch case goods and upholstery with a furniture source yet to be announced.
A previous plan to develop wood and upholstery with Highland Design was dropped, said Carlos Reed, vice president of licensing and branding for Jane Seymour Designs. Highland Design's assets were acquired by Martin Furniture and the brand is now marketed as Curt Christian Design by Martin.
“We wanted to go with a bigger, more traditional styled company,” said Reed about the switch.
“Jane's presence in the U.S. marketplace is growing rapidly,” added Reed about the star of “Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman” and other TV shows and films. “Her partnership with Kay Jewelers has resulted in sales of $100 million in a little less than a year.”
He said that much of the inspiration for the Jane Seymour line comes from paintings by the actress, who has created some 3,800 pieces of art.
