NEW ORLEANS — Victor F. Kirschman, whose family once ran the Louisiana-based furniture retail chain bearing its name, has died of complications from Parkinson's disease. He was 86.
His father, Morris, founded Kirschman's in 1914, selling goods door to door before opening his first store. At age 8, Victor Kirschman was accompanying his father on visits to furniture manufacturers. The younger Kirschman remained with the business, which eventually grew to be a Top 100 chain with nine locations, until it was sold to Rooms To Go in 2006 for an undisclosed purchase price.
At the time of his death, Kirschman was chairman of Morris Kirschman & Co., a holding company. He was involved in a number of civic and trade organizations.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
