Winco joins Therapedic as Texas licensee

By David Perry -- Furniture Today, September 7, 2009

Therapedic International announced that it has signed Winco Inc. as its new Texas licensee as the Top 10 bedding maker continues to add to its roster of licensees.

Winco becomes the sixth domestic licensee added by Therapedic this year, a sign that the group's products and marketing stories are resonating in the bedding industry, said Gerry Borreggine, CEO and president of Therapedic.

Earlier, the company also signed Artaban International as its licensee for Mexico. “We are pleased to join the team of a top bedding brand,” said Alejandro Rodriquez-Gamboa, president of Artaban.

Winco, which also is the company's licensee in Haleyville, Ala., has agreed to expand its Therapedic operation by opening a facility in Carrollton in a factory previously operated by the former Spring Air Co. It will serve Therapedic dealers in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.

Winco is owned and operated by Carroll Moran, who also owns fast-growing Corsicana Bedding, a Top 15 bedding producer.

“We are especially pleased to have Winco expand its Therapedic operation,” said Borreggine. “It's a strong endorsement of our program, and an affirmation of its adaptability by independent entrepreneurs, either small or larger operations, such as Winco.”

“What Therapedic is doing fits our plan,” said Moran. Winco has also acquired the Spring Air license for Texas, he said.

“We planned to put a Therapedic plant in Texas, and then, Spring Air and this plant became available,” said Moran. The factory will operate as a dual-license operation, he said.

Therapedic has been without a licensee in Texas for two years. The new factory is currently in operation and has begun shipping Therapedic products, said Doug Guffey, president of Winco.

“This is a great opportunity to bring back a brand name, a product, and a value that has been sorely missed in this territory,” said Guffey. “We intend to run this business on volume.”

This latest addition gives Therapedic 13 U.S. factories. The company also has a network of international licensees, according to Borreggine.
