By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 12, 2006
Fall River, Mass. — Major U.S. fabric supplier Quaker Fabric has sold its 240,000-square-foot Plant B here in a move to slash operating expenses by consolidating domestic mill operations.
All work at Plant B was shifted to Quaker's other eight plants in Fall River during the last quarter of 2005, the company said. A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission indicated Quaker sold the facility to Strictly Realty for $1.4 million.
In the past few weeks, Quaker has announced sourcing partnerships with Daewoo International in Korea and Hangzhou Zhongwang in China. Quaker currently employs 1,550 people and had 2005 revenues of $225 million.
