Elmore joins Master Design
Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, March 19, 2006
Ontario, Calif. — Joe Elmore has joined case goods importer Master Design as executive vice president of sales, marketing and product development.
Elmore, who held a similar position at case goods importer HomElegance, reports to Chester Lee, president of Master Design. Lee also is chief operating officer for Test Rite USA, a subsidiary of Master Design's Taiwan-based parent company, Test Rite Products.
Elmore had been with HomElegance for seven years before leaving the company last fall to pursue contract and consulting opportunities.
At Master Design, he will oversee the global marketing and supply chain strategy. Many of those responsibilities were handled by former Master Design President Gene Hodges, who retried in early March.
Most of Master Design's bedroom, dining room and occasional product is sourced from China. Elmore will add Malaysia and Vietnam as source countries, with market samples expected from both countries by the April market.
The product mix also will be expanded to include home entertainment, home office and upholstery pieces that complement existing case goods items.
"It all begins with products that the dealer tells us we need," Elmore said. "We sell with our ears. We don't sell with our mouth. We are restructuring and resourcing the product mix to meet today's dealer demands."
The company also is fine-tuning its logistics system to include expanded U.S. warehouses and offshore warehouses that will consolidate shipments in the source country. Elmore believes the changes will enhance the company's direct and mixed-container business to both Top 100 and smaller retail accounts.
