Qubein continues to win kudos

High Point — High Point University President Nido Qubein has received two honors that help validate his business success and contributions to the world of public speaking.
Qubein is one of the 2006 recipients of the Horatio Alger Award, honoring people who overcame adversity and humble beginnings to achieve success. He came to the United States from Lebanon as a teen-ager with $50 and little knowledge of English, and has become a well-known motivational speaker, a businessman and a university president.
He is one of 10 recipients for 2006. Past recipients have included former Secretary of State Colin Powell, talk show host Oprah Winfrey and the Rev. Billy Graham.
Qubein also was named to San Francisco-based Decker Communications' list of Top 10 Communicators of 2005. Others on the list are Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Pope John Paul II, Condoleezza Rice, Charles Schwab and Malcolm Gladwell.
