IFFS to add woodworking show
Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, April 10, 2006
Singapore — Next year's International Furniture Fair Singapore will have something extra — a woodworking show with exhibits ranging from sanding and veneering machinery to finishing and carving equipment.
The World of Woodworking Machinery, or WOWMAC, show could feature as many as 100 exhibitors in about 100,000 square feet in Hall 7 of the Singapore Expo.
IFFS itself has about 500 furniture, lighting and accessories exhibitors in more than 600,000 square feet in the first six halls at Singapore Expo.
A key goal of WOWMAC is to increase the draw and value of an event that brings an estimated $32 million (U.S.) to Singapore's economy.
IFFS is held each March in conjunction with the ASEAN Furniture Show. The next event is March 1–5, 2007. The inaugural WOWMAC event will be March 3–6.
"We feel there is a lot of potential to develop this (woodworking) show," said Jerry Tan, vice president of the Singapore Furniture Inds. Council. "Many of the trade visitors are furniture manufacturers, so we expect synergies."
Officials have not determined the frequency of the WOWMAC show. They are surveying potential exhibitors and visitors and expect to decide by August.
