Bigger Baby's Room reopens in Michigan

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 2, 2006

An expanded The Baby's Room store has reopened in this Detroit suburb on Novi Road, between Interstate 96 and 12 Mile Road.

Owners Emery and JoAnn Keathley more than doubled the store's selling space to nearly 16,000 square feet. The unit is a franchise of Top 100 chain USA Baby, a specialty retailer of infant and children's furniture and accessories.

The Keathleys have owned the store since 1987, originally as independent retailers before becoming a USA Baby franchisee. They have three other The Baby's Room stores in metro Detroit, in Taylor, Clinton Township and Auburn Hills. The stores offer a comprehensive array of products for babies and children, from crib to college.

The couple has two children and a grandson. Son Emery Jr. and his wife, Stephanie Kay, are involved in the business.

USA Baby, based in Lombard, Ill., was established in 1975 and today has nearly 70 stores, averaging about 7,500 square feet.
