Carefully Crafted
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 2, 2006
This category could be called "crewel intentions" because there are so many examples of that embroidery that will be shown at the April market. Embroidery is just one example of fabrics that evoke a sense of hand crafting, which is part of the trend to feminine styling. But these are not sissy looks — rather they have elements that show deliberate choices based on beautiful color or hand or meaningful artistry. This page illustrates some of the lovely crewel work, as well as a grandly scaled print and even a creative Western look.

B. ARTURO POZZI AT PEARSON

C. BARTSON FABRICS AT MICHAEL THOMAS
An intricately carved Louis XVI settee is the showcase for Batik, a rayon and polyester fabric that spends an additional two weeks in Italy for finishing, where it is tie-dyed by hand and then crinkled to create this unmistakably rich look.
D. CIRCA 1801, C&A, FABRICUT, PORTFOLIO, BRAEMORE AT C.R. LAINE
A well-edited assortment from five sources creates the very feminine Jessica McClintock aesthetic in this grouping that debuts this month. These patterns are, from left: Circa 1801, Galant; C&A, Skylar; Fabricut Highlight; Portfolio Textiles Sanctuary; Braemore Monjetto; and Circa 1801, Kizar.
