DANBURY, Conn. - Ethan Allen Chairman, President and CEO Farooq Kathwari was honored for his work with refugees and displaced people around the world.
     The recognition came during the U.S. Assn. of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees gala in New York in commemoration of its parent organization's 60th anniversary. Also know as the U.N. Refugee Agency, the UNHCR has safely repatriated or resettled more than 50 million refugees.
     Kathwari was one of three honored for their dedication to raising awareness of the plight of refugees worldwide. The others were ABC News correspondent JuJu Chang and Jack Leslie, chairman of Weber Shandwick public relations.

Redhead Furniture Design

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Furniture designer Abby Eaton has left Legacy Classic Furniture and has launched Redhead Furniture Design, a freelance design firm specializing in case goods for master and youth bedroom, dining room and living room.
     Eaton, the firm's owner and designer, had been vice president of merchandising for youth and casual dining at Legacy Classic since April. Earlier, she worked for design firm Otto & Moore, and was a designer for several licensed collections including Paula Deen, National Geographic, Eddie Bauer and Country Living.

Bernice Bienenstock Furniture Library
HIGH POINT - Ten new members have joined the Bernice Bienenstock Furniture Library's board of directors.
     Elected to the High Point organizations board were Danny Davis, Davis Furniture; Stephanie Lowder, Rare Bird Creative Marketing; Kern Maass, Appalachian State University; Dudley Moore Jr., Otto & Moore; Jay Reardon, Hickory Chair; Cheminne Taylor-Smith, High Point Market Authority; Ed Tashjian, Tashjian Marketing; Jeff Williams, Alderman Co.; Penn Wood, Wood Foundation; and Chip Wright, Leggett & Platt.
     The library is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Furniture First
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Furniture First has hired Andrew Kauffman as director of mattresses and Shauna Snyder as director of accents and accessories, a new position.
     Kauffman began his furniture career in 1989 delivering mattresses. He worked as store manager and sales manager for a Pennsylvania sleep shop with five locations, and in 1999 joined a two-store furniture retailer as sales manager and later operations manager and assistant buyer.
     Snyder is responsible for creating, managing and improving Furniture First's supplier program relationships. She reports to Tony Moretti, vice president of merchandising.
     Prior to joining Furniture First, Snyder held positions with retailers Storehouse and Art Van Furniture, and home furnishings sources Surya and most recently Rizzy Home.

LAS VEGAS - The Western Home Furnishings Assn. elected its 2012 slate of officers during a board member meeting at the winter market here.
     This year's officers serving a one-year term are Angel Lopez, Dearden's, Los Angeles, executive committee chairman; Chris Sanders, Everton Mattress Factory, Filer, Idaho, president; Valerie Watters, Valerie's Furniture & Accents, Cave Creek, Ariz., president elect; Lael Thompson, Broyhill Home Collections, Aurora, Colo., vice president; Chuck Kill, Bedmart, Tucson, Ariz., treasurer; and Tom Slater, Slater's Home Furnishings, Modesto, Calif., secretary.

ATLANTA - Rosanne Kozerski Brown, the co-owner of independent gift and home décor retailer Venice Stationers in Venice, Fla., has been appointed to the AmericasMart Gift & Home Furnishings advisory board.
     The board is made up of AmericasMart exhibitors and retail customers from the home and gift industry and is charged with helping to develop growth strategies and initiatives for the market entity.

Easyhome Ltd.
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - Easyhome Ltd., Canada's largest merchandise leasing company, has appointed Sean Morrison and David J. Thomson to its board and as members of the company's audit committee.
     Morrison is the co-founder and a managing partner of Maxam Capital Corp., which manages a $102 million pool of capital through its Maxam Opportunities Fund. Maxam holds approximately 15.1% of Easyhome outstanding common shares.
     Thomson has more than 30 years of experience in real estate management and development. He is a former president of Great West Life Properties, where he managed a $1.2 billion real estate and mortgage portfolio, and executive vice president of Oxford Development Group.

Parker Southern
HIGH POINT - Upholstered furniture maker Parker Southern honored sales representatives Tarbee Wright and Paul Fowler during the October High Point Market.
     Wright, who covers North Carolina and Georgia, was presented with an award for excellence as the top sales producer.
     Paul Fowler, who represents the company in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky, for Parker Southern, was recognized for outstanding sales increase.

Englander Northwest
TUALATIN, Ore. - Englander Northwest, based here, has named Jon Mullinax director of sales and marketing.
     Mullinax previously owned and operated eight American Mattress stores in Seattle. Before entering retail he was vice president of sales for Simmons in the Southeast. He started his career with Serta in Southern California.
     "Our customers will benefit from Jon's experience, professionalism and the robust knowledge he brings from his previous positions in retail and manufacturing," said John Hagglund, president of Tualatin Sleep Products, which does business as Englander Northwest.

Paramount Sleep
NORFOLK, Va. - Paramount Sleep has hired Jim Vaughn and Aimee Matlock to the positions of business elevators.
     They are tasked with bettering current and creating new dealer relationships as part of the bedding manufacturer's service expansion in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and southern Georgia, the company said.
     "We're dedicated to helping our dealers grow their business," said Richard Fleck, chief marketing officer. "Jim and Aimee were brought on board for their expertise and the added value they will bring to our dealer relationships."
     Vaughn has more than 30 years of experience in the furniture industry, including positions with Klaussner Furniture and Broyhill Furniture. At Paramount, he will work with dealers in North and South Carolina.
     Matlock formerly worked as a territory manager for Sealy and has 10 years of business-to-business sales experience. She will work with Paramount dealers in Florida and southern Georgia.
