Sklar appoints Malish COO, president
Michael J. Knell -- Furniture Today, May 22, 2006
Whitby, Ontario — Bill Malish has been named president and chief operating officer of upholstery maker Sklar Peppler, a new post.
Malish was previously president of Fixture This, a company providing store displays, and Tube Tech. He also was a cofounder of the ROI Fund, one of Ontario's fastest-growing venture capital firms.
"Bill brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in manufacturing, finance and sales to Sklar," said Bob Tweedy, chairman and CEO.
Tweedy said adding a president and COO will allow him to concentrate his time and efforts on strategic development and planning. "I also want to spend more of my time with our customers in their stores making sure that our brand strategy is working out there in the marketplace," he said.
Tweedy also will be seeking opportunities for Sklar Peppler to expand.
"This industry is likely to enter into a period of consolidation over the coming months, so I'll also be on the lookout for a good fit (for a possible acquisition)," Tweedy said.
Malish, who will report to Tweedy, assumes his new position on May 15.
Meanwhile, Sklar also announced it will move its factory and office in Whitby to nearby Ajax, Ontario, before the end of summer.
"This is an opportunity for us to move everything under one roof and into a more cost-efficient building," said Tweedy, adding that no production jobs will be lost as a result of the move.
