AHFA adds furniture carriers group
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, September 14, 2009
HIGH POINT — The Specialized Furniture Carriers Assn., a group of more than 40 transportation and logistics companies, has become a division of the American Home Furnishings Alliance.
The furniture carriers group, which was founded in 1986, will keep its name but will be operated by the AHFA.
David Purvis, AHFA's vice president of information technology, manufacturing and human resources, will be the group's executive director. The previous executive director, Ken Miller, retired earlier this year.
“This is an opportunity for the SFCA to reorganize with the support of what we believe to be the strongest trade association in the furniture industry,” said Greg Skoog, senior vice president of Caldwell Freight Lines.
“Bringing together these two organizations give us the opportunity to consolidate our efforts, and everyone wins,” said Skoog, who is serving as president of SFCA during the transition.
Membership dues will range from $750 to $3,000 per year, depending on the carrier's annual volume of home furnishings shipments. Companies interested in membership should contact Purvis at dpurvis@ahfa.us.
An organizational meeting for the new AHFA division will take place during the October market in High Point.
