Beverly Hall closing Buckhead-area furniture store in Atlanta
Shifts in the marketplace cause change in strategy

ATLANTA — Beverly Hall is closing its original Buckhead community store, one of three locations the upscale retailer operates in the Atlanta area.Owner and President Jerry Hux said in a press release on the retailer's Web site that "shifts in the marketplace and fundamental changes in the home furnishings industry" led to the decision to close after 63 years.
"One simple reality is that the traffic patterns near the Piedmont location have simply made our clients' visits to our store much more cumbersome in terms of reaching us than we would like for them to experience."
He added that the company is evaluating other options for serving consumers inside Atlanta's perimeters.
Hux told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the Buckhead store was hurt by the recession and growing competition from national rivals. Beverly Hall has two more Atlanta-area stores in Roswell, Ga., and may consolidate those into one location by the end of the year, according to the report.
Beverly Hall also has a store in Hilton Head, S.C.
The retailer currently is promoting a $6 million inventory liquidation sale" to clear goods from suppliers such as Henredon, Baker, Century, Hancock & Moore, Sherrill, Hickory Chair and others. Liquidation and sales specialist The Lynch Co. is coordinating the event.
