W.S. Badcock opens N.C. unit

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, June 5, 2006

Top 100 Southeast chain W.S. Badcock has opened a 26,000-square-foot Badcock Home Furniture & more store here on South Church Street.

This marks the first Badcock store in Burlington. The area is a key target for more Badcock stores. The company recently opened a $7 million distribution center in nearby Mebane, N.C., which will support dozens of new stores in the Carolinas, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama and surrounding states.

Dealer John Nicholson formerly worked in the textile industry in Burlington, where he and his family were born and raised.

Badcock stores carry more than 4,000 items, including electronics, appliances, bedding and flooring. More than 75% of the chain's 330 stores are dealer owned and operated.

Headquartered in Mulberry, Fla., Badcock was founded in 1904.
