Club 8 changes name to BoConcept

Herning, Denmark — Manufacturer and retailer Club 8 has changed its name to BoConcept, the same as its dedicated stores.
Club 8 was founded in 1952 as a ready-to-assemble furniture maker focusing on chests of drawers and wall units, according to Tina Pilgaard, a spokeswoman for BoConcept. The line has broadened to include case goods, upholstery and decorative accessories.
The first BoConcept store opened in Paris in 1993. There are now 150 stores worldwide.
Pilgaard said the name change will make the company's identity more consistent.
"Although we were one team before, it is so much easier for everybody now, and also easier to explain to our end consumers," she said.
BoConcept will continue to provide the same services as Club 8, such as co-op advertising, quick shipping, Internet or video catalogs, sales training, store layout or planning assistance, Pilgaard said.
BoConcept has 13 stores in the United States and plans to add 10 more in the next 14 months, she said. The next opening is scheduled for June 24 in Orlando, Fla. The company's U.S. operations are based in Bayonne, N.J.
