Lexington leaving home
Jeff Linville -- Furniture Today, June 5, 2006
Lexington, N.C. — Lexington Home Brands is moving its headquarters this weekend from its home in this North Carolina town to its showroom in Thomasville, south of High Point.
The move is only 13 miles, but President and CEO Bob Stec said it will put executives closer to the company's product samples and will yield other benefits.
For one, the newer showroom building will be cheaper to maintain than the downtown Lexington plant it has occupied for 50 years. (A smokestack at the plant still bears the name of a predecessor company, Dixie Furniture.) And it will allow the company to arrange its offices in a more efficient, open environment to make cooperation among departments easier.
Lexington will continue to operate the plant behind the Lexington office building, where light assembly and finishing takes place, mostly of dining chairs. The facility also handles repairs and warehouses finished goods.
About 120 office workers are moving to the building in Thomasville, which has a showroom of about 100,000 square feet and about 40,000 square feet for offices.
Phone numbers will change. The main number will be (336) 474-5300, and the customer care number will be (336) 474-5700. The new mailing address is Lexington Home Brands, 1300 National Highway, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.
What will happen to the vacant Lexington property is uncertain. Stec said the company might renovate the building and find a new use for it, or sell it to a group that will do so. The company has hired a consultant to study the location and the surrounding area and offer ideas.
